CMO has been engaged by the International Labour Organization (ILO) through its MozTrabalha initiative to facilitate the phased establishment of a Forestry Industries Training Centre in Manica Province.
The initiative follows structured engagement between the ILO and leading forestry industry operators in Mozambique — including IFM — to identify critical training deliverables required to strengthen sector capacity at an operational level.
Strengthening Forestry Skills at Source
The development of a dedicated Forestry Industries Training Centre will provide a much-needed local, specialised training resource for the region’s forestry sector.
By making accredited training more accessible within Manica Province, the initiative will enable sustainable forestry operators to:
- Upskill their workforce efficiently
- Improve operational standards
- Reduce training-related costs
- Strengthen long-term workforce development
The centre is designed to support the growing needs of Mozambique’s forestry industry while reinforcing best practice standards across the sector.
Supporting Certification and Compliance
As operators such as IFM progress toward FSC and CCB compliance and certification, maintaining structured and consistent training standards becomes increasingly critical.
The establishment of a regional training facility significantly expedites the application and ongoing maintenance of required certification standards, strengthening both operational discipline and environmental stewardship.
Implementation Underway
Following one-on-one consultations with forestry operators, CMO has begun training educators in priority subject areas identified during industry engagement.
The first courses are anticipated to be offered as early as mid-2026, marking an important milestone in building technical capacity within Mozambique’s forestry sector.
